A collective voice is emerging from our forests... as recognition grows of how sustainable forest ecosystems can support the social, ecological and economic vitality of rural communities. The Centre for Non-Timber Resources (CNTR) supports a sustainable and ethical wild products sector that respects the values and needs of all users.
The Buy BCwild Initiative is delivering key activities to bring stakeholders together for a sustainable future:
- Hosting business conferences and networking events to bring together individuals, organizations and communities involved with the sustainable utilization of forest resources.
- Publishing the annual Buy BCwild products and services directory and building public awareness of wild products through ‘Shop the Wild’ events that support the development of the sector.
- Advancing the sustainable use of non-timber forest resources by developing innovative training programs, advocating for policies that support sustainable use and liaising with the many stakeholders that are part of this emerging sector.
- Developing market research and quantifying the economic value of the sector through interdisciplinary research in all areas of non-timber resource utilization, including commercial, subsistence, recreational and traditional uses.
